Steak and Kidney

No, not some type of tres regurgitatable culinary delight  revolt, just a cute (kinda) knick-name for my new soon-to-be place of residency.

Yes, Fashion Falsehood is relocating. Hauling ass onto an abandoned rail road car and freight-hopping my way down to the big time mid-south with nothing more than a suitcase (or four) of clothes, an open mind and one hell of a determined streak.

This time 'round there's actually some legitimacy behind the reason for my lack of blogging. I'm living out of boxes at the moment, my computer is on the floor - not in a quirky New York loft kind of way - and I'm so effing disjointed/excited/nervous/nostalgic/ready to moesy right on up out of here and initiate phase two.

*A shoe closet seemed appropriate because that's what I can afford to live in based on a budget to square meter spatial  ratio. So if you have a sweet shoe closet, shoot me an email.

Drop The Pressure

I've really been struggling to find a way to come back to Fashion Falsehood. I feel like the longer my absence, the greater the pressure I put on myself to come back with a bang. I don't want to disappoint my readers with something over-done, yet at the same time I don't want them to keep checking back to find a static web page.

I feel like I need to come back from my holiday (read: hiatus) with stories of travel, elaborate purchases and a back log of posts waiting to be published. Though I haven't really gone anywhere, bought anything or been near a computer long enough to be inspired. That's not to say I've been totally absent from the online world, just temporarily disconnected for an internet detox. It's nice to unplug sometimes. To fall behind the rat race and be totally okay with it.

The best thing about being away from blogging for so long is knowing you're still on somebody's radar. I've received touching emails from old blogosphere friends asking where I am, I've been tweeted by brand new Fashion Falsehood readers telling me the enjoyment they've found in the archives of my writing, and  the enjoyable daily interactions I have with my new friends on Twitter have pretty much stopped me from pulling the plug for good.

So to say thanks to you all, I'm going to start fresh. Even if it is the same old opinionated rants, inappropriate language and pseudo outfit posts via Polyvore, it feels new to me and most of all, it feels right....

BACK IN FEBRUARY

Hi girlfriends and boyfriends and lovers from the world over. As you would have noticed, I've been taking some serious time off and revisiting the reasons I started Fashion Falsehood in the first place. I've painted myself a pretty big picture for 2011 and I hope you will all join me on my journey this year - the year things will really start to happen (that is, of course, unless I decide to waste away for another year at uni and do my masters). So if you've been missing me terribly which I know you have (modest, much?) don't worry, because...

I'll be back from my blogging hiatus this February.

Until then you can catch me on twitter @miannscanlan, on my LOOKBOOK.nu and the FrockShop blog FS Style.

See you all soon!

Now on Twitter!

So now I'm tweeting all the "interesting" garb that I'm not blogging. Follow me! @MiannScanlan

To celebrate - here's a classic (ruined by Eurotrash pop sensation The Saturdays) that I deem rather fitting for the occasion....

Look at those girls go!

VOTE FOR ME IF YOU LOVE THE 90s

My best friend Mia and I entered this massive styling competition for MYER, our Australian department store equivelant to Barneys or Macys or something along those lines.

Anyway the challenge was to emulate your favourite decade of style; either 80s, 90s, or now.

We chose 90s because:

"Growing up in the 90s, it's by far my favourite decade and where I draw most of my inspiration from. I wore the dishevelled hair, the oversized slooppy joes and combat boots with pretty dresses. Winona Ryder and Kate Moss were the it girls. We wanted to marry Johnny Depp, snog Leo DiCaprio and hang out with Kurt Cobain. This collection of looks tailored to the era plays with the juxtaposition of societal classes and stereotypes. It's a recreation and a celebration with a modern twist.
"

Unfortunately, the girl that is leading unapologetically copied the sample example by MYER. It's vote based. So by god please show your friends, take the time to vote for us and send us to fashion week!
SEE MY PROFILE HERE, HERE AND HERE!

How to vote:
1. Click on the big pink Vote for me now button
2. A small window will appear. Click Sign up
3. You will be directed to a new page to enter your details, make sure you select I'm just here to vote at the top of the page
4. Enter your details
5. Come back to this blog post to get the link to my profile, then click the original Vote for me now button
5. Give yourself a high-five!!!

Temporary Portfolio

I came across this cute website called Carbonmade that lets you do up a quick and easy online portfolio. I'm in the developing stages of miannscanlan.com as an online body of work that will have a big "HIRE ME" button! No joke. The economy is awful and we're all looking for work, right?

Anyway they're fun to browse through not to mention totally lucrative! Click on the image below to access mine.

Fashion Sudents Unite

Welcome to my new blog Fashion Students Unite.

Before you painc, no, Fashion Falsehood isn't going anywhere. Fashion Falsehood is a creative outlet where I can air my opinions, post reviews and inspiration (like about a million other blogs out there). However I've been hunting around for something localised where I can find information that a fashion student like myself would be interested in.

I haven't found much so FSU was bred intending to fill that gap in Brisbane's fashion society. Yes, there are websites like Fourthousand etc that update us on all things cultural based on our post code, but what about the stuff the fashion students are interested in: Projects calling for open submissions of work, profiles focusing on fashion graduates and the like?

If you're from Brisbane and want to contribute to FSU email me on miannnscanlan@gmail.com with either your blogger profile details or personal details with article attached and I'll post it for you.

While I've got your attention, don't forget to become a fan of Fashion Falsehood on Facebook and follow Fashion Students Unite.

F O L L O W Fashion Falsehood

There are enough fashion blogs out there that prefer to stick to one genre of posting or another - be it outfit posting, reviewing, inspirational pictures, streetstyle or editorial. But if you're looking for a combination of all of the above plus more - follow Fashion Falsehood.

Sometimes I'll treat you with pretty pictures, a bit of a wrap up on a season or sneaky little insights into Australian fashion, but given my nature as a writer you're going to have to hear my opinion once in a while.

I'm open to suggestion, discussion and questions.

If all this is cool with you, follow me by clicking on the link at the top of this page, or be my first follower on Bloglovin'. (I've just worked out how to use the stupid thing).

Much love, Miann x

Personal Works

henrik purienne

So I've been tagged by Francheska of Fashion Canvas to tell you all seven things you probably don't know/don't need to know about myself.

1. Conspicious consumption and the overt opulence circulating the fashion industry makes me sick. So much money that is wasted on fickle shit like an $8000 Hermes bag could be donated to charity.
2. I don't donate to charity (as much as I could).
3. I really want an $8000 Birkin.
4. I get off when people don't recognise me.
5. I want to look like every single female Henrik Purienne has ever photographed.
6. I like to pretend I'm hell French, though I only know the extreme basics of the language - the shit you learn off cartoons like Madeline.
7. I'm terrified of sparklers.
