Lust List: Eye-wear

Sequential to my trip down memory lane the other day, as promised here is my current eye-wear lust list.

After going on a trying-on rampage in the city yesterday and pissing of shop boys and girls the mall over (I'm looking at you Shades), I thankfully knocked quite a few contenders out of the competition, however the last few are still vying for the prime position on the leader board aka. my face.

In third place we have the Karen Walker Super Duper Strength frames. Thick heavy frames (me like), round with a hint of cat-eye, perfect for hiding a multitude of sins, even though this multitude can include err, my entire bone structure (me no like). Like, hello, I need my cheekbones! Still, for the sake of fashion I do love these. Swoon!

In second place we have another strong contender from Karen Walker, this time round it's of the  tortoise variety with the Number One's. The structural kitty silhouette frames also remind me of Bat Man, though I have absolutely no idea why so I'm just going to go with it. It worked for me with my old Persol's and it's still working for me now. You do the math.

Coming in under the radar to take first place are the sneaky Betsy frames by Isson. Cute name aside, they're a bit more Bat Manish than the others which I'm tres digging. Also a bit awkward; the frame at the top doesn't quite know what's going on (like me a lot of the time) and it's trying to be cool (me, again) and it's kinda getting there but it still makes you think hold on, do I hate this or do I love this? A bit of an aesthetic dilemma never goes astray. My only problem (who am I kidding). One of many of my problems is do I want the black or do I want the purple which is equally as compelling in the love/hate relationship stakes.

The jury is still out, so I may kind of really desperately need your advice on this one.... s'il vous plait?

I'm considering splashing out on a new pair of frames, all the while getting all nostalgic over the previous pares I've loved and lost.

Supermodel Redux

There probably isn't one like this coming any time soon, but this is just so trashy and so delicious and unbelievably insane and distracting! ...in the sense that I'm finding ridic excuses to put off my assignment. And I want those blue socks. Oops. Now I'm on ASOS. Buy-bye essay!

Dion Lee x Cue

So today's the day..... and I slept in.

Not that I have any money in my bank account, but I was planning on joining the cue (pardon the pun) and getting amongst the designer capsule collection madness.

In the lead up to this much anticipated event that includes the southern hemisphere in the collaboration madness (following on from Lanvin for H&M) I had done my best to predict what direction the collection would take. Of course, it would put any office fashionista on the top of the aesthetic status ladder as a lot of Cue's structural pieces do, however I expected delicate fabrics reminiscent of his SS2010 stand-out collection at RAFW. Today however I was pleasantly surprised with a well tailored shirt which I am absolutely coveting more than anything else. The collection also channeled a corporate winter including heavy textures of wool, felt and knit, a somber colour palette and on-trend injections of camel and khaki.

Trick To Try: DIY Nail Varnish

Being one not easily satisfied, I've found myself over the years constantly mixing my nail varnishes to achieve the perfect shade.

My most complimented and favoured concoction is one varnish I liked to call The Lincoln Cherry.

For all you OPI fans out there, you might recognise this as a mixture of Lincoln Park After Dark (an almost-black purple) and Quarter of A Cent-Cherry (a rich blood cherry red). 

To achieve this colour - which admittedly now reminds me of the H&M Midnight Passion varnish - mix the Cherry into the Lincoln, and not the other way around. In daylight, keep adding small portions of the Cherry, mixing and testing on your nails as you go, until you achieve the desired effect. The hint of red emanates through the cherry creating a mysterious and sultry and coveatble shade for your mani. 

In summer buy a cheap French-Manicure set, (try Manicare French Nails) and add a few drops of the French White into the French Pink to get that super-pale bubblegum pink to make your tan pop. Tip: Looks awesome on your toes!

At the moment, I'm currently mixing two nail varnishes from work (like literally, as I'm typing this. It's really effing awkward). Both are in the khaki colour way inspired by the Les Khakis de Chanel nail collection. To be honest, they're total failed attempts at re-creating the Khaki Vert and Khaki Brun and aren't quite there in terms of shade. So for the purpose of this exercise lets just call them Medium Grey-Green and  Baby-Poo Brown. Available exclusively at a Nine West near you! Luckily, all they needed was a bit of loving from each other....and now I practically have the Brun for my toes and the Vert for my hands. All for just $20.

All I need now is for Loz from Vogue Contradiction to bring me back some fake Chanel from Thailand and I'll be killing it. Or should I say nailing it? Or should I say manicured? Or should I say polished?

Drop The Pressure

I've really been struggling to find a way to come back to Fashion Falsehood. I feel like the longer my absence, the greater the pressure I put on myself to come back with a bang. I don't want to disappoint my readers with something over-done, yet at the same time I don't want them to keep checking back to find a static web page.

I feel like I need to come back from my holiday (read: hiatus) with stories of travel, elaborate purchases and a back log of posts waiting to be published. Though I haven't really gone anywhere, bought anything or been near a computer long enough to be inspired. That's not to say I've been totally absent from the online world, just temporarily disconnected for an internet detox. It's nice to unplug sometimes. To fall behind the rat race and be totally okay with it.

The best thing about being away from blogging for so long is knowing you're still on somebody's radar. I've received touching emails from old blogosphere friends asking where I am, I've been tweeted by brand new Fashion Falsehood readers telling me the enjoyment they've found in the archives of my writing, and  the enjoyable daily interactions I have with my new friends on Twitter have pretty much stopped me from pulling the plug for good.

So to say thanks to you all, I'm going to start fresh. Even if it is the same old opinionated rants, inappropriate language and pseudo outfit posts via Polyvore, it feels new to me and most of all, it feels right....
