Just in the middle of my regular Kate Lanphear style stalk looking for some winter inspiration.

Dame Edna Chic
So I had this absolutely adorable neighbour when I was younger. Nanna Dott I called her. She always had a "blue" rinse - even though it was purple - that I always wished was mine. It was the 90s, so what if I wanted purple hair?
Anyway, with the saturated influx of the pale hair trend I can't help but wonder what all the little old ladies and their darling blue rinses would think.
Do they feel involved in fashion? Do they feel fabulous? Or do they think we're copying the one thing they have their signature on, afterall, they've lived through all the fashion we're wearing these days?

I'd love to sit down and ask Dott, but lord knows where she is these days. Bless her.

Steak-and-Kidney Wrap Up
No this isn't a post about some kind of culinary disaster. This post is designed to bypass my lack of consistancy and mend my broken promises of day to day updates on my trip.

Gail Sorronda poncho, vintage boots, DIY cross earing, Diana Ferrari bag worn throughout, Mecca nail varnish in Dionyza worn throughout

Prepare your selves for one hell of a compact, concise and photo-fuelled post about my internship and social activities during my time down in Sydney (or Steak-and-Kidney as my mum likes to call it. Bless).

Jail Bird Escapes to Sydney
So I've been totally running around in Sydney. It's been absolutely non-stop, just the way I like it! I've been doing the touristy thing every afternoon: Face buried in map with the high-fashion stores highlighted, I feel like I know this city already (which is a gross generalisation but makes me feel less like a tourist and more like a Sydneysider none the less).
For the most part I've been so excited to see the street style, but all the while I've been bitterly dissapointed. In a city of 4,000,000 people, I've noted about three truly stylish people on the streets. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, or maybe my expectations are too high. But for Brisbane - the seemingly too-small-to-be-fashionable city - the saturation of stylish people in comparison to the population is something to be said for.
To avoid boring you to death with my overtones of egotism and ramblings of a girl discovering a new city, this post will be cut short.
This is a dress I bought while shopping in Paddington, specifically in this boutique called Museum on Oxford St - one of the places I spotted one of those hard to find stylish Sydney girls. It's kind of bat-winged, and because I'm inlove with swamping my frame in oversized cloaks and the like, the stripes made this dress even better.
It's by Backstage and to update the stripe trend, I teamed it with a Balmainesque velvet blazer and my vintage battalion boots.

Mon traitement à moi-même
After making possibly one of the hardest decisions we females ever have to make (to follow thy head or thy heart) I have decided to treat myself to a few luxuries I've recently otherwise denied myself.
Yesterday I spent the day shopping with mon meilleur ami (my best friend) Mia and the day before that I spent my waking hours crying into my pillow in between bouts of finding much sought after comfort in my teddy, a tub of ice cream and the latest issue of Shop Til You Drop.
With my new found solidarity and bff on arm, we tackled the mall and fought off all conversation regarding the male race on a whole. So prepare yourselves for a very near future outfit post featuring an out-of-this-world Bianca Spender blazer.
But in the mean time today I'm working on my tan to complement my newly acquired wardrobe for my internship in Sydney!
Isn't it a wonder what a spot of retail therapy can do?
I highly recommend this kind of pedigree self-love. Until next time être fabuleux et régalez-vous! (Be fabulous and treat yourself!)

Monster and Midget

Meet Monster and Midget. Two Brisbane girls at the intersection of fashion, art, design and photography who despite the economic climate have defied all odds and created a visual feast free of mediocrity and the constricting boundaries of subordinacy new publications commonly find themselves trapped in.
Thembi Hanify and Ashlea O'Neill have for a limited time only released the pre-issue before gaining enough support and advertising to print and distribute M&M down the east coast of Australia. But before all that, check out the preview here.
M&M is a clean cut publication devoting time and effort to effective white space however with the juxtaposition of clinical whiteness against an honest and earthy type-face, M&M is a delight to flip through for anyone with a soft spot for design. It toys with the cutting edge and modernity while paying homage to the delights of that familiar, classic magazine feel.

In the Buff
I've had this recurring obsession with nude palettes since I can remember. It usually centralises around clothing but frequently stems out into other tangents of fashion i.e. bare makeup, nude lips, neutral nail varnish and even that "beige" tone of blonde hair.
Thinking back now, I believe my obsession began when I was fifteen and nothing would occupy my mind more than what my semi-formal and formal dresses would look like. I've still got my old Vogue tear outs and I've now conciously noticed my apparent idée fixe with shades of nude.
Luckily for me the fashion world seems to have similar bouts of nudity, rekinding my love for peach, flesh and beige tones all over again each season.
I love how nude makes a hushed statement without backing off aesthetically. The complexity and detail of a well layered black outfit is equally important when applying nude. You have to be careful to wear the right colour for your skin tone, avoid anything tight so as to not actually look naked and learn when too much is too much.
If you're a nude lover at heart but don't own anything in the pallette, start with a classic trench a la Hermes or Burberry or a simple shift dress inspired by the simplicity of 90s Calvin Klein.
Mentally scanning my wardrobe, I surprisingly and dissapointingly can only locate one such coloured garment: An oversized blazer which much to my delight will be losing its wear-virginity this autumn (or alternatively, the second it's cold enough).
