MOLTENSTORELAUNCH

A few sneaky snaps I took with my Blackberry this morning at the amazing, intimate Molten Store launch.

WARNING: If you have a soft spot for jewellery, interiors, brownies and/or champagne, you may experience excess frothing so have a towel handy.

Hang tight for the official photos. You will lose your marbles.

I'm so proud of you Jessy.

I Got Love For Somedays Lovin'

After some uninspired time away from blogging, the number of yawn-worthy pitches in my inbox had almost taken their mind numbing toll. That is, until I received an email from Jaye Leigo informing me of his label's most recent lookbook shoot.

Now I'd heard of Somedays Lovin' and seen their stuff on Market HQ but had never really looked twice as my aesthetic is so far removed form foho it isn't even funny. I'm like all apexes, clean lines and tailoring and shiz. But this lookbook totally changed my mind. Like, who wouldn't want to hang-ten on Hills Hoists wearing ass-exposing cut offs bathed in desaturated film grain goodness?

A little bit of info. Jaye is currently working on an upcoming collaboration with mega babe Oracle Fox so check back for previews as it's sure to be amazeballs with that girl involved.

Dion Lee x Cue

So today's the day..... and I slept in.

Not that I have any money in my bank account, but I was planning on joining the cue (pardon the pun) and getting amongst the designer capsule collection madness.

In the lead up to this much anticipated event that includes the southern hemisphere in the collaboration madness (following on from Lanvin for H&M) I had done my best to predict what direction the collection would take. Of course, it would put any office fashionista on the top of the aesthetic status ladder as a lot of Cue's structural pieces do, however I expected delicate fabrics reminiscent of his SS2010 stand-out collection at RAFW. Today however I was pleasantly surprised with a well tailored shirt which I am absolutely coveting more than anything else. The collection also channeled a corporate winter including heavy textures of wool, felt and knit, a somber colour palette and on-trend injections of camel and khaki.

Below are my favourite picks.

Blazer With Sleeve Slash $450 arrives March; Dinner Shirt $99 arrives March; Double Ponte Bike Skirt $320 arrives April
Felt Moulded Dress $360 arrives April

Trench With Floating Yoke $550 arrives March; Utility Pocket Skirt $250 arrives March; Dinner Shirt $99 arrives March

Beware if I see you in store and you're trying on my Dinner Shirt.

Trend Alert: Simpsons Inspired Make-up Gun

Following on from my last post aka my awkward attempt at a beauty post which I promised myself I would never burden you with again.... until today when I was casually flicking through Fifi Lapin and saw this:

(Vivienne Westwood SS11)

Which reminded me of this:

Enough said.

Céline wears the pants

Now it's nothing new for designers to dictate what we must have in our wardrobes, but according to Céline, "Five Perfect Pants" is all a fashionista needs - and I feel quite happy to oblige considering last night creative director Phoebe Philo won designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards. So what are these Five Perfect Pants?
  1. High-wasted wide leg
  2. Pleted and tapered
  3. Men's straight leg
  4. Cropped tube leg
  5. Flat-front tapered leg

Style.com's street-style love triangle

Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil has just released his PFW round of photos for Style.com entitled "tommy, can you see me?". I'm super excited, I can't wait to click through the collection of images, but before I do, I can't stop myself from doing a quick check to see if The Sartorialist aka Scott Schuman is still contracted to Style.com as resident street-style blogger (he has been since early 2007).

He is. He still holds the http://www.style.com/fashionshows/sartorialist/ link that he's always had.

So why does the byline to Tommy's collection read "Everyone's favourite photoblogger, Tommy Ton of jakandjil.com is back in action at Paris fashion week."

I don't know.

But the photos are amazing. I'm going to hunt around for some more info on this love-triangle. Style.com you cheeky devil! In the mean time, feel free to drool.

Fashion Film Festival

I know I'm at least two-and-a-bit years late in posting this but truthfully, I've only just come across the A Shaded View On Fashion Film (ASVOFF) festival. The idea of a film festival devoted in its entirety to fashion really just excites me way too much for me not to post this.

Some how up until the point back in 2006 when I stumbled across Erin Fetherston's short fashion film for her s/s 06 Wendybird collection, I had never, ever seen a fashion film before. Gasp! They're around us so much now-a-days, but back then it was  BIG deal for me.

I think I was (and still am) most enamored by this moving medium for portaying a collection, in an industry that is dominated by the still photographic medium. Since the beginning, collections were first illustrated with sketches, then photographs (distributed now across whide variety or tangibale and viral mediums), and then video footage of the collections being presented at fashion shows. This was the "norm". Flip on FTV and you were welcomed into a world of behind the scenes footage, montages of photo shoots and interviews, but there wasn't yet a niche for short films. Sure, there was fashion in film, but no room for film devoted soley to fashion. Or so I thought...

The festival kicks off in Paris on September 24th, then travels over to Tokyo and no doubt Milan. Until the actual festival, you can only view trailors of most of the featured short films, however The Talent House ran an open sumbissions competition in conjuntion with Diane Pernet (founder of ASVOFF) and Tavi (of The Style Rookie) where anyone and everyone could have a shot at being featured in the festival.

All the submitted videos are still up on the page and below are my picks:

Skull and Bones
This one really gets me because I love the justaposition of the aesthetics. The garments are very clean cut, well tailored and give off that 1940's dramatic vibe, but the location is just totally the opposite. It's also not as conceptual as some of the other films which makes it easier to sit back and enjoy, rather than try and understand.

Are you also wistful?
The first scene in the old school house reminds me way too much of Picnic at Hanging Rock - which I loved purley for the fashions and bad Australian accents.

Update 26/08/2010:

Fred Sweet from The Fashion Film Network emailed me last night after reading this post and pointed me in the direction of his own festival, the La Jola Fashion Film Festival www.ljfff.com. Thankyou!!! It looks amazing!

Hermès "I Love My Scarf" campaign

Luxury designer brand Hermès has teamed up with French store Collette in the launch of it's youthful new Jaime mon carré (I love my scarf) campaign.

I see this as a smart move on Hermès' behalf, as the brand which is better known for its exclusitivy has opened up the market to the opposite end of their usual customer spectrum. Well, seemingly. The scarfs still carry the same hefty price tag, but the new additional website and street style look book are targeted to tickle the fancy of our younger generation of big spenders.

The new website www.jaimemoncarre.com features Hermès scarfs on young hot fashionstas in their natural environment. Which is a far (but appreciated) cry from the usual highly stylised editorial look books featuring six foot supermodels playing polo or sitting atop of elephants.

Note: It's more than likely that these girls are models, and their supposed natural environments are infact well thought-through and just as highly stylised as their oppulent editorial counterparts - but the desired effect to portray natural behaviour is, I think, well achieved no less.

You select your desired fashion capital city and are presented with a bunch of "it" girls and their interviews answering questions like "What would be your own scarf print?". There's also a cool feature where you can see up close the different scarfs the girls are wearing and learn how to tie different knots.

I remember back when my step mum bought a Hermes scarf. I was young, so I was more fascinated with the cute little knot book than the actual scarf itself... which is probably why I'm so smitten with this interactive feature. Go figure.

FrockShop and Fashion Falsehood

This afternoon I was contacted by the lovely Jessy Cameron over at FrockShop.com regarding crossing our blogger/fashion PR paths for a possible cheeky collaboration project. It's just a whisper though, no full blown rumours just yet.

In the mean time FrockShop are offering all my readers a 10% discount on both sale and full price items! Just enter the codeword: FASHIONFALSEHOOD at the checkout to redeem your share of the love. But be quick, the offer is valid until midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time this Sunday the 18th of July... not to mention they're already having an up to 80% off sale on labels such as Antipodium, Camilla and Marc and Elizabeth and James!!!

Speaking of Elizabeth and James, Jessy also sent through some snaps from a recent photoshoot they did using pieces from current season Elizabeth and James, Karla Spetic and Ginger & Smart. I'm inlove with the pallette, especially considering it's starting to feel like winter is ready to surrender to spring already!

Subfusco FW2010 The Inhabitants

Excuse the unforgivable sixteen day delay on this post. Just to be unique I'm going to tell you I have absolutely no excuse for the delay apart from sheer lazyness. Worst blogger on earth? Almost.

Anyway, so I get a call from a contact (or a friend-of-a-friend as they say in the real world. I'm going to say contact, it sounds far more fabulous) a few weeks ago asking if I'd be interested in coordinating the monthly fashion shows at an event called Threaded. I'd heard a lot of hype about Threaded, but me being the hermit I am, have never managed to venture along. After a quick exchange of details I decided to check out the forthcoming event to see if it was my kind of thing. Turns out it was...eventually.

So Friday night rolls around and I get there at 7pm before anything too serious starts happening to see how I can help out. A few air kisses later and the next thing I know I'm air kissing my old friend Josh from Subfusco. It's his show tonight!

No sooner was I getting all excited about my friends' show than I am violently thrown into panic mode. I've been informed that one of the models has just pulled out and I'd be "the perfect replacement" considering I was already wearing the appropriate footwear for the show. Are these people insane? Have they seen me? A size ten, 5'7" girl who loves food too much for her own good, in my books, is not the ideal model. Before I had time to protest and plead my culinary case I was being fitted for my two runway looks and whisked over to hair and makeup. Why did I have to be wearing my comfy combat boots tonight? Why! This was not in the job description!

Anyway, once I pushed images of Beth Ditto getting her sexy on out of my mind and got over the fact that I'd be standing next to six foot, size six models, I grabbed a champagne (yes, with a straw) and my packet of cigarettes and started to embrace my temporary albeit absurd role as "model".

Here are some of my backstage snaps and a couple of images from the amazing look book.
