'Til Death Do Us Part

So I'm craving another tattoo. The thought continiously ebbs and flows yet I can't decide as to what I feel more strongly about getting done. I know time will tell but in the meantime I figured I'd blog it and let it simmer.

I have a translation that I need to get 100% double, triple and quadruple checked before I even consider looking at fonts. I have to send it to the literary database over in Ireland to get the correct Irish Gaelic translation without permernantly screwing up the verbs and tenses etc. Until then, I squeeze my eyes shut whenever I pass a parlour for fear I'll go in and get it done on a whim. Speaking of whims...

Back in early July I spontaneously got a tattoo of a cross on my left hand when I was on a road trip. I'm inlove with it; no regrets. It's tiny, I look down at it when I pray and it looks like it's been done free hand (which it has, but the authenticity of it is what attracts me most). Imperfections. No scar should be perfect.

So at the moment I'm tossing up between getting a bird's wing - just the one - on my inner right elbow or an antler on the outer edge of my left wrist. As for the translation, I either want it on my right outer wrist or on my rib cage running horizontally. I'd love to get it on the inner of my upper arm but let's just say you can only pull off those sans body fat a la Erin Wasson.

As far as shading goes I only want black outlining and no filling in, but who knows which bird wing/antler shape I decide on.

Here is some inspiration that's been keeping me thinking.

Go with a star/moon, or your zodiac. Those are my suggestions, but I guess just make it meaningful.

love the idea of the antler.

god i want a tattoo desperately

I love the ones that look hand drawn - particularly adore linear, outliney ones. I hate anything to solid (on females) and generally hate colour.

unfortunatel, my dad says that if i dare to get one he will sand it off my flesh with a belt sander :(

that is a bit morbid...

i totally adore tattoos and yeah make sure you think about it long and hard before youre doing anything and be really careful about writing in another language. those antlers are so cool but you know what the coolest tattoo ive seen is it was a male model and he had a pair of wings, one on each shoulder blade and omg i totally fell in love with the tattoo and the picture is stuck up on my bedroom wall. very excited to see wat u decide and love to see pictures when you get it done! x

i like all your ideas! I have yet to get one - i too have to restrain myself from spontaneously getting one. I've decided I'll get the number "11" somewhere,on my 21st birthday, that gives me a year and a bit to think about it! haha would love to see the tattoo you already have! xx

hello! found your blog through the amazing Kelly Smith's art blog.
The first two photographs of the wings are really amazing in contrast. I think it is a really neat theme to work with.

I'd love to see your cross, sounds damn cool.....I thought I would say that I really love the second pic of the wing (slightly mutilated but still strong), your ideas are really nice. Be cool to see what you get!

ahh this post is so coincidental! i was looking into ideas for tattoos for ages and i was looking at antlers as well. Literally yesterday, my best friend and i walked past a parlour, half an hour later i have an indian flower on my ribs... i love it! Love the wing idea but dangerously close to angel wings... eek! x x
