Blogroll Update

So my Google Reader is in desperate need of a makeover. When I have some spare time I try to catch up on old blogs I haven't read in months, only to find they've shut down or have dissapointingly fizzled out into nothingness.

My mission? I'm going to run a mini blog search contest, kind of like ANTM but without the challenges and photoshoots and the winner is, well... me!

I'm open for submissions so if you have any blogs that you think need mentioning (that are otherwise relatively undiscovered), comment with the link and what your favourite thing about them is.

To give you an idea, I'm after blogs that have substance. Yes, yes, I love pictorial blogs like KnightCat and the like, but I want to hear what they have to say, read all about their adventures and get insights into the life of a budding fahionista. Take the following blogs for example:

Kicks and Threads - Karla designs for Staple, Minkpink and Minkpink Swim. She has the BEST style on earth (in my opinion) and posts outfits, inspiration, sneak peaks, very regularly. I predict blogger stardom in the near future.

(Left to right) Rachel, Jessy and Sara

Wandering Babcia - Rachelle is an amazing stylist who has a whole lot of miles under her belt, travelling and blogging her fashion finds and behind the scenes snippets of her continious collaborations.

Wide Awake Thoughts - Jessy (mentioned previously) used to work at Sass & Bide, but now runs the local PR and online communications for FrockShop.com and blogs for FS Style.

Harper and Harley - Sarah is a bit of a babe and a bit of an all-rounder on the Brisbane fashion scene. She also started Fashion Marketing Online, a blog dedicated solely to fashion marketing/pr insights.

HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!

FrockShop and Fashion Falsehood

This afternoon I was contacted by the lovely Jessy Cameron over at FrockShop.com regarding crossing our blogger/fashion PR paths for a possible cheeky collaboration project. It's just a whisper though, no full blown rumours just yet.

In the mean time FrockShop are offering all my readers a 10% discount on both sale and full price items! Just enter the codeword: FASHIONFALSEHOOD at the checkout to redeem your share of the love. But be quick, the offer is valid until midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time this Sunday the 18th of July... not to mention they're already having an up to 80% off sale on labels such as Antipodium, Camilla and Marc and Elizabeth and James!!!

Speaking of Elizabeth and James, Jessy also sent through some snaps from a recent photoshoot they did using pieces from current season Elizabeth and James, Karla Spetic and Ginger & Smart. I'm inlove with the pallette, especially considering it's starting to feel like winter is ready to surrender to spring already!

Pretty Boy

Melbourne model Andrej Pejic (Chadwicks/Storm) has been the subject of much confusion over the past few months with his gender-bending look having quite a few in the fashion world mistakening him for a her.

Having first appeared on our radars opening the Antipodium show last year at RAFW and now coming to light on the international men's SS2011 circuit (having walked for John Galliano, Raf Simmons, Paul Smith and Jean Paul Gaultier), Pejic has been dubbed the one to watch. Reminiscint of the long haired early 90s version of androgyny championed by Steven Meisel, Pejic's androgynous look is well due for a come back.

The recent RUSSH article about the return of the "all American girl" exemplifies how paralell to wavering fashion trends, types of looks for models also come and go. For arguments sake, take the 'alien' look typified by Gemma Ward for example. Once the novelty had worn off, fashion decided it had had enough of the influx of wide-eyed beauties who would have normally been shunned from the casting rooms and considered too "unconventional" for the catwalks and campaigns of the world. But isn't that the point? That in fashion we appreciate and prefer the unconventional? Sure, we enjoy the classics such as pearls, the little black dress and a splash of Christy Turlington, but isn't it really about the other types of beauty, the types that challenge the norm and make us think?

I find my self marvelling at Pejic the way I'd marvel at models like Daria or Natasha, the way I'd marvel at a female model. There's something about him that is just to stunning. So elegant, so, well... pretty!

Perhaps the reason I am so enthralled by this model is because he reminds me so much of a female. I look at his hair and think "oh his hair really is just so lovely". What male model do I stare at and wish I could emulate? Think about it long enough and it really becomes quite bizarre. Don't get me wrong, I love my scruffy, tough-as-nuts boyfriend who could build me a house with his bare hands (and look damn fine while doing so), but there's just something so appealing about Pejic's anti-adonis delicacy.

What do you think?

Style inspiration

On my break at Jesselle PR. Have seen tonnes of inspiring fashion today but none such as motivating as the post on FS Style by fellow Brisbane blogger Sara from Harper and Harley (don't worry, she's definitely not the aforementioned horror blogger).

She scored a fantastic gig regularly guest posting for my current blog obsession Frockshop Style. It's the blog behind Australian online store Frock Shop where, by the way, I made my very first ever online purchase. My georgette silk bow covered Zimmermann dress for my semi-formal. Sigh. Let's move on before I get all sentimental on you.

So basically she expresses her love for the current drape trend as seen on Lara Bingle and Alex Spencer.

Anyway, I ventured through Westfield Chermside yesterday in search for a pair of heels for my new dress which my boyfriend bought for me as a surprise! Squeal! As I'm far too picky for my own good and for those of you who have been with me on Fashion Falsehood from the very beginning will know that I'll wear a pair of shoes to death before I get a new pair, so I really, really have to have an extreme love affair with them before I make a purchase.

Ok I'm going really off topic. Sorry, I'm just really excited for cocktails tonight and I can't really concentrate.

Didn't find any shoes that I liked so instead decided to borrow my step mum's pair of Lisa Ho wedges. This gave me more time to freely browse the stores and see how the curren trends have been translated into high-street.

I noticed Bardot has done a fantastic job communicating slouchy khaki with a great selection of teeshirt dresses in cotton jersey and silk, cable knit army green midriff tops, khaki pants, cropped muddy green blazers and silk tunics all at fantastic price points. As someone who isn't a slave to fads, I convinced myself I'd be back to pick up a few pieces to inject some trend into my wardrobe.

Afterwards, I was immediately drawn into Portmans after spending ten minutes marvelling at the images of Jessica Hart in imitation Burberry trenches. I totally melted when I first saw them being sent down the runway, and now I can get my hands on my own unforgiving desiger copy! I went in and tried them on and they're actually fabulous. The draped folds of the knotted shoulders are completely to die for and I'm going in next week to pick one up in purple. Luckily it's a really light trench so I can wear it through winter and well into spring, but I'm going down to Melbourne for my birthday and I'm afraid I may have to leave it at home in lieu of a warmer coat.
Lily Donaldson in khakiBardot Pinhole Knit top $79.95
Burberry S/S10
Portmans Contrast Knot Shoulder Trench $159.95
Burberry S/S10
Portmans Mutton Sleeve Soft Trench $139.95

Brisbane Bloggers

I know Brisbane is a very small place and whatever you say get's around, which is why I won't name and shame who I'm going to whine about. Let's take it from the beginning, shall we?

First of all, I LOVE Brisbane blogs! Coming from a city who doesn't make too much of a mess on the fashion richter scale, I get all warm and fuzzy when I read about fellow Brisbane bloggers or just see that their blogs are getting the praise they deserve. Maybe it's all in my head and I'm a little too patriotic for my own good, but I'd assumed that if and when I were to meet a fellow Brisbane blogger, it would be a lovely joyus occasion? We could talk about other blogs, up and coming projects and congratulate one another for "keeping up the good work"... Apparently not.

Last weekend I met one such Brisbane blogger. I saw her from afar and recognised her from her outfit posts. We used to comment each other quite a bit and built up what I would call quite a positive report. Again, apparently not.

I went over to introduce myself and say hello. I started talking about her blog and one of my favourite posts of hers before I was interrupred with "Excuse me, remind me who you are?"

A little set back I repeated that I was Miann from Fashion Falsehood and that it was really nice to meet her. This is when my blog-family-warm-and-fuzzy world came crashing down around me. I was blatantly told, to my face, "What, and I'm supposed to care? Get out of my way." And she pushed past me.

And that was it. I was left standing there looking and feeling like a complete idiot. I guess it is like they say "never meet your heroes", not that she was a hero or anything, I just liked her blog. But it's a funny thing when you idolise someone and what they do, only to find out that in real life they're a total fucking dissapointment. There, I said it. You're a rude bitch and I ashed in your drink later on in the night when I saw you again out the back. Glad that's off my chest.

If any other Brisbane bloggers are reading this, don't worry. It wasn't you. She shut her blog down a while ago. Maybe that's why she is so bitter, she doesn't have anywhere to vent or post pretty pictures! BUT! Maybe we should make it like Melbourne and organise a blogger lunch. Those Melbournites seem to have plenty of pretty blogger luncheons. I think it's our turn. As for you blogger-bitch of the century. Good riddance. We were all getting over your iPhone, mirror-shot outfit posts of you at work. Yawn.

Anyway, for the sake of relevance, here is my only photo from the night. Oh! Holding my BlackBerry. I got it replaced and life is good again!!

Dannii Minogue Headpiece

The past few days channel 7 had been running adds for last night's epidose of Australia's Got Talent. What's so exciting about that? You may ask your self. Well, typical shallow me was more drawn to watching last night's episode by the fashion far more than the 'talent' that was promised.

On the adds I caught a glimpse of Dannii Minogue's head piece and decided I would set aside the time to sit through the show to try and catch the credits at the end to see who the hosts were dressed by. Also typical me - I fell asleep. My friends can vouch for how much I over-sleep and I think it's gotten past the whole "ohh it's just her teenage hormones". Seriously, I'd sleep through World War 3 if I willed myself to.

Anyway, below are some screen shots from this youtube video of Dannii in the head piece and I'm desperate to know who it's by. If anyone can shed just a weak beam of light on the issue I'd be more than appreciative.

Boy oh boy!

It was all shock and awe when Russh did an editorial featuring cult it-boy Jethro "I've got more to offer than this pout and pose honey" Cave, and now they've bravely ventured into the realm of publishing men on the cover of female oriented fashion magazines a la Oyster, i-D, Dazed etc etc.

Along side the male cover debut, the "Bunny 'Aint No Kind Of Rider" editorial is by far the most amazing editorial I've layed my eyes on. The spashes vibrant colour reminds me of documentaries if seen on Holi, the once a year Hindu festival of Colour where in one particular riatual participants throw around and smear each other with mountains of coloured ground-up flowers. It's a beautiful celebration of colour and I'd say that's what this editorial is in iteslf - a dazzling celebration of colours.

I'm pretty pissed considering my copy hasn't arrived in the mail yet - it's always late! And we all know just how hard it is to resist trawling the internet for previews of our favourite publication. I can't wait to get my hands on it and add to the shrine on my wall. If you want to know something about my wall: There's really not much there because I'm so select about what makes the cut, but snippets of this editorial will most certainly be the new focal piece.

Day one at Jesselle PR

Well. My first day at Jesselle PR. Where on earth do I start? Perhaps I could begin with what I wore - but I kind of already blew the lid on that yesterday. What can I say? I couldn't help myself!

9:30am and I'm ontime for my first day at Jesselle. Pulling up to Lightspace Studios I was greeted with architecture that is so out of its place in the back streets of Fortitude Valley that excitement got the better me. Dad could tell and tried to use his soothing words to settle me down. I jumped out of the car, gave dad a quick kiss goodbye and drew a deep breath of the crisp morning air before checking out my reflection in the car window as he drove away. Typical.

So this was it. Here I was, staring into the huge glass window, peering into the world I so desperately want to be a part of. I mean, there were high heels decorating the window sill. Hello! Where else could I possibly want to be!

After I met the girls (Jessica and Jessica) and got a run down of their clients and their philosophy on brand building, I wrote a few press releases, flicked through a few (read: more than a few) magazines, drank a tonne of coffee and caught up on some much needed fashion reading I have otherwise been neglecting due to uni.

I just found out that an old acquantience of mine, Benjamin Ringuet, has recently been picked up by Jesselle for representation. I've been tracking his development for a few years now and couldn't wait to get my hands on his unreleased collection. I could see myself in literally every single one of his pieces - and was lucky enough to be wearing one later that evening! (That's a whole other story in itself, and for those of you who haven't yet stopped reading, I will treat you with now).

So basically they had a full lookbook shoot planned for one of their jewellery labels. Going through the garments the girls had collected I pulled together a few looks and who would have known - their colour palette was nudes and whites. Heaven! Anyway the model and hair and makeup girl couldn't make it due to a few re-arrangements so I jumped on facebook and started harassing every model friend I had. Then one of the Jess' tells me they just found a girl available for the shoot. Annie Dwyer. I thought to myself "that sounds suspiciously similiar to my friend's name, Anne Dyer". Turns out Jess got it wrong and it WAS my friend. How stoked was I?!

Anyway 6pm rolls around and we've prepped everything for the shoot at the studio (props, garments, looks, insipration etc) and now it's time to head on over to the Courier Mail studios where the magic is set to happen. Just before we leave, I find out I have been volunteered to model for the lookbook along side Anne. How does this keep happening to me! Lucky I had that champagne earlier...

So Anne and I head over to the studio and we're beside ourself with laughter in the car at how ridicilous this whole situation is (considering neither of us are actually models) and that we were about to both shoot the official campaign for an international brand.

We get to the studios, slather on as much makeup as humanly possible and attempt to curl my hair with a ghd. Considering it's dead straight and impossible to style, this proved to be a challenge but we managed. Nothing a bit of persistance and a whole can of hair spray can't fix. The second we were ready we ran to the table where there was FOOD. We were STARVING. I swear the designers, photographer and PR girls were all casting funny looks our way because they've probably never seen 'models' eat so much in their lifes. Anne and I couldn't help but chuckle.

Now before you start to think that photoshoots are as glamarous as they seem on FTV - don't be fooled. There's tonnes of waiting around and I quickly learnt the philosophy of "fake it until you make it". We had about five garments between us. Five garments with two girls and six looks to create. As you can imagine, a whole lot of substituting and bull clipping went on and I ended up manipulating a mens shirt into a boobtube... don't ask. Oh! I forgot to mention the Benjamin Ringuet dress. I suppose this shoot was where I got to wear it! By the end of the night at around 10:30pm, Anne and I were losing our shit with the giggles and we all decided to call it a wrap.

All in all, as far as a first day at an internship goes, I really can't complain. Thirteen hours, a photoshoot and a million press releases later, I cannot wait for next weeks adventure with Jesselle PR.
